Seatrium delivered first WIV to Maersk Offshore

Wind Energy – WIV

Seatrium handed over the Maersk wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) to its owner on 26 February, the Singapore-based shipbuilder said.

Not only is this the first vessel of our fleet but a world-first design, engineered to enable a faster, safer buildout of offshore wind.

Built to install the next generation of 15+MW turbines, the vessel’s stabilising technology is what truly sets her apart, enabling high-efficiency turbine installation through a pioneering feeder-docking system.

Maersk says the vessel is the first Feeder Solution to enable safe and efficient component transfer at sea. By locking the feeder vessels to the WIV, Maersk ensures absolute stability for a stable, ‘fixed-to-fixed’ transfer – even in high sea states.

The vessel is a Jones Act Compliant solution, designed for significantly faster installation time and lower risk operations in the US. And offers an installation method that will enable more ports globally to play a role in the offshore wind industry, from smaller, shallower marshalling points to ports behind bridges, locks or hurricane gates.

The new WTIV is scheduled to sail for its first assignment at the Empire Wind project offshore New York in March 2026.
