First monopiles and transition pieces for Nordlicht I

Wind Energy – Nordlicht 1

The Nordlicht offshore wind cluster has reached a key milestone with the completion of the first monopiles and transition pieces for Nordlicht I ahead of schedule.

Manufactured by the EEW Group and CS Wind Offshore, these foundations represent significant progress towards the start of offshore construction later this year.

For Nordlicht I, 68 foundation units will be installed, each comprising a monopile of up to 80.5 meters in length and approximately 1,290 tonnes in weight, and a transition piece standing 23.7 meters high and weighing around 362 tonnes.

Once operational, Nordlicht I will be Germany’s largest offshore wind farm at 980 MW.

Together with Nordlicht II at 630 MW, the 1.6 GW cluster is expected to generate approximately 6 TWh of fossil-free electricity per year, contributing to European energy security and long-term decarbonization targets.
