General – Ember Report
For the first time ever, more electricity was generated from wind and solar than from fossil fuels in the EU in 2025, according to the latest report of global energy think tank Ember.

Combined, wind and solar provided a record 30% of the European Union’s electricity last year.
This shift was driven above all by solar’s rapid expansion. Solar generation rose by more than a fifth year-on-year, reaching a new record of around 370 TWh. Solar is now growing in every EU country, while coal continues its structural decline.
Wind power remained a cornerstone of the European power mix. Together, wind and solar have become the backbone of the EU electricity system. They now provide almost a third of the bloc’s electricity, up from roughly 20% in 2020.
