The Philippines announced its first major natural gas discovery in over a decade at the Malampaya East-1 well.
With an estimated 98 billion cubic feet of gas in place, the discovery is enough to generate nearly 14 billion kWh of electricity annually and significantly bolster domestic energy supply.
This discovery marks a key moment for regional energy security and the transition toward cleaner power sources, especially as the country seeks to reduce dependence on coal and stabilize its power grid.
