Turkey expands offshore push as TPAO signs MoU with ExxonMobil

Saturday, January 10 2026

Fossil Energy – Turkey

Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) and Exxonmobil signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering new exploration areas in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean and other potential areas, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on Thursday to Reuters.

Bayraktar stated that the accord aims to enhance operational efficiency and pave the way for discoveries.

“In line with our goal of a fully energy-independent Turkey, we are strengthening our capabilities through international collaborations and moving forward to becoming the energy hub of our region,” Bayraktar said.

TPAO is not the first Turkish company to sign an agreement with ExxonMobil. The state pipeline operator BOTAŞ signed a deal in 2024 for the supply of LNG.
