AI delivers $130M boost to Equinor and Partners in 2025

Wednesday, January 7 2026

General – AI

In 2025, artificial intelligence delivered tangible results for Equinor and its partners, helping save an estimated USD 130 million while strengthening safety, efficiency, and long-term energy security.

Across both offshore and onshore operations, Equinor is deploying AI to transform how facilities are run. Advanced algorithms now enable operators to analyse seismic data up to ten times faster than before, opening new possibilities for well planning and field development.

At the same time, AI-driven optimisation is improving day-to-day operations, allowing assets to be run more intelligently and reliably.

The impact is already visible. More than 24,000 sensors continuously monitor over 700 rotating machines, enabling predictive maintenance that reduces downtime and prevents costly failures.

In subsurface planning, AI tools generate thousands of development scenarios, giving experts a far broader decision-making base than traditional methods allow.

Seismic interpretation has also accelerated dramatically, with around 700,000 square kilometres of data analysed in 2025 alone using AI support.

Beyond efficiency gains and cost savings, AI is playing a strategic role. It is helping safeguard energy security, support continued value creation, and maintain production on the Norwegian continental shelf at 2020 levels through 2035.

As Equinor’s experience shows, artificial intelligence is no longer a future promise—it is already reshaping the energy industry.
