Fossil Energy – Guyana
Cybele Energy, a Ghana-based, female-owned oil and gas company, is the latest independent entrant into Guyana’s burgeoning offshore energy sector.

Founded in 2012, the company has grown from a small exploration startup into a diversified energy firm, according to its official website. Its core operations are organised under three divisions: Cybele E&P (Exploration & Production), Cybele Engineering, and Cybele Aqua — covering oil and gas asset development, integrated technical and engineering services, and water-resource/engineering consulting, respectively.
Cybele E&P focuses on acquiring and developing low-risk, high-potential reserves, leveraging advanced seismic, drilling, and production-optimisation technologies.
The engineering arm provides oilfield services and infrastructure work. Aqua adds expertise in water resource management and environmental consulting, an asset when operating in sensitive offshore and frontier-market environments.
From its beginnings in Ghana, Cybele has steadily expanded its ambitions internationally.
The award of offshore Block S7 in Guyana marks the company’s first entry into the Latin American basin, a move the firm describes as part of a broader global expansion strategy.
Under the leadership of founder and Chief Executive Officer Beatrice Mensah‑Tayui, Cybele emphasizes innovation, sustainability, and ethical business practices as foundational values. The company states a commitment to environmental stewardship, workplace safety, and community engagement.
