Fossil Energy – Seismic

BP has commenced seismic exploration at the Karabakh offshore field.

3D seismic surveys using high-density ocean bottom seismic nodes (HDOBN) will be completed by March 2026. The goal is to reduce reserve uncertainty, inform development planning, and support final investment decisions.

In June, bp announced that it planned to extract first oil from the Karabakh field by the end of 2029. The resulting oil and gas will be delivered to shore via the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli subsea infrastructure.

According to preliminary estimates, the geological oil reserves in the Karabakh field amount to 60 million tons. The volume of recoverable oil reserves is estimated at 21 million tons (155 million barrels), and the volume of natural gas reserves is estimated at 13 bcm.
