General – Energy Transition
ONE-Dyas has reached a milestone in the energy transition: the cable connection between the N05-A platform and the German offshore wind farm Riffgat is complete and is being used to produce natural gas.

This makes N05-A the first natural gas production platform in the Dutch and German North Sea to run on offshore wind energy.
For several months now, the N05-A platform has been producing natural gas from a single Dutch well, but drilling of a second well will start soon.
The mobile drilling platform that will be temporarily connected to N05-A to drill the well has been converted to run on electric power which is also unique in this part of the North Sea.
This means that both gas production and drilling activities take place with minimal CO₂ emissions: a breakthrough in offshore gas projects.
The platform electrification reduces greenhouse gas emissions to virtually zero. This natural gas production supports the climate targets, which are aimed at reducing emissions. At the same time, it makes an important contribution to the security of natural gas supply during the energy transition.
The N05-A platform can produce two billion cubic metres (2 bcm) of natural gas per year, equivalent to 7% of Dutch demand and more than 2.5% of German demand.
The Dutch-German energy project is strategically located in the border area in the North Sea, where several small fields together contribute to a stable energy supply for the Netherlands and Germany.
The potential of these fields in this so-called GEMS area is approximately 50 bcm of natural gas. Gas demand in 2024 was approximately 75 bcm in Germany and approximately 30 bcm in the Netherlands.
