Fossil Energy – Newfoundland
Van Oord has completed the full scope of its activities for the West White Rose project, located offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, a project defined by technical complexity and harsh weather conditions.

Van Oord’s scope covered multiple offshore phases in Newfoundland, starting with the seabed preparation layer executed by its flexible fallpipe vessel Stornes at 117 metres depth on the Grand Banks in September 2024, enabling accurate positioning of the Concrete Gravity Structure (CGS).
In May 2025, Nordnes and Stornes simultaneously carried out solid ballasting of the CGS in Placentia Bay, providing the necessary stability for tow-out to the field. Once on location, scour protection around the CGS was installed by the Nordnes on the Grand Banks in July 2025. The final phase followed in October 2025, when the Nordnes performed flowline protection activities to safeguard the field’s pipelines.
