Ghana moves to acquire major offshore oil & gas block

Tuesday, December 9 2025

Fossil Energy – Ghana

Leading news provider Business Insider Africa reports that the Government of Ghana is preparing to acquire a highly valuable offshore exploration block containing substantial oil and gas reserves.

At stake is the asset, identified by Springfield E&P, which contains over 1.5 billion barrels of oil and 1.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Springfield E&P already made history as the first Ghanaian independent company to drill and discover oil in deep water, an achievement long dominated by international oil majors.
