Wind Energy – Recyclable Blades

RWE completed the installation of all recyclable blades at its offshore wind farm Sofia.

The completion of 150 recyclable blades from Siemens Gamesa is the first ever large-scale deployment of this innovative technology in the UK.

According to RWE, the recyclable rotor blades use a unique resin, that enables easy separation of component materials at the end of each blade’s operational life cycle.

This process supports high-value recycling avenues, repurposing materials into products such as vehicle components, bicycle helmets, and suitcases.

In parallel, more than 60% of Sofia’s 100 turbines are already installed 195 kilometres off the UK’s East coast. The recyclable blades mark a practical step forward in circular design, while turbine installation continues steadily towards completion in the first half of 2026.
