Offshore Energy – Installation

Today RWE completed all foundation works for Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date, the Thor.

All 72 monopiles, the secondary steel structures and the 2,600-tonne offshore substation are now installed — safely and on schedule through excellent teamwork offshore.

To protect the foundations from the harsh conditions at sea until the turbine towers are mounted, innovative reusable hard covers have been installed.

Coordinated from the Port of Thyborøn and using Van Oord’s offshore wind installation vessel MPI Adventure, the installation of secondary steel was completed in less than six months.

Next up is turbine installation from the Port of Esbjerg in spring 2026.

Thor will be the first offshore wind farm to feature 36 towers made from CO₂-reduced steel, and several turbines will carry recyclable blades: practical steps towards more sustainable construction at sea.
