Wind Energy – Estonian-Latvian project

ELWIND has signed a contract with Haskoning Nederland B.V. to conduct a study on determining and assessing possible grid connection points, cable routes, and network configurations for the Estonian-Latvian offshore wind park project.

The Grid Study will be conducted by Haskoning for the ELWIND offshore wind park areas in Latvia and Estonia, which will consist of a high-level assessment of possible grid connection points from a technical and legal perspective, and determine the possible cable routes and lengths also taking into account the possible risks and restrictions of cable placement.

This study will consider the capacity of the transmission network at the connection points and identify viable grid connection points and onshore areas for land-based substations. It will also consider restrictions on cable placement to enable efficient cable routing.

The capacity of the transmission network at the connection points will be taken into account, as will the following existing information regarding the routes: Maritime Special Planning (MSP); existing cable corridors; Natura 2000 areas; military zones; and legal regulations.
