Dutch government announces budget for offshore wind

Wednesday, September 17 2025

Wind Energy – Finance

The Dutch government is allocating nearly 1 billion euros from the climate fund to license and subsidise offshore wind farms.

In just over 10 years, the electricity from a Dutch power socket has gone from being almost entirely fossil-based to more than 50% solar and wind-based. Offshore wind alone will cover 75% of the UK’s electricity demand in another 7 years.

Offshore wind is the backbone of a geopolitically sensible energy supply: it makes the Netherlands independent of Russian gas and Arab oil.
