Wind Energy – Steel cut
The first steel cut at the Heerema Fabrication Group shipyard in Vlissingen officially marked the start of construction of the jacket for the IJmuiden Ver Beta offshore platform.

This jacket forms the robust foundation of the platform and marks an important milestone for TenneT’s new standard for connecting offshore wind farms.
Heerema Fabrication Group is constructing the jacket for IJmuiden Ver Beta in Vlissingen. It is one of three jackets that the Dutch firm will produce for TenneT’s 2GW programme on behalf of the Seatrium and GE Vernova consortium.
With a length of 90 metres, a width of 43 metres, and a weight of over 10,000 tonnes, it ranks among the largest steel structures ever built in the Netherlands for offshore wind.
The IJmuiden Ver Beta platform will be the first in a series of new 2GW connections that TenneT will realise in the Dutch and German North Sea in the coming years. This innovative standard enables the efficient transportation of large quantities of sustainable energy to land, reducing the need for multiple platforms and cables.
