Wind Energy – Cable Testing
The Hollandse Kust (west Beta) offshore wind project has cleared a key hurdle with the successful completion of cable system tests, Dutch grid operator TenneT confirmed this week.

In just seven days, engineers finalized Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) on two 220 kV export cable systems that will carry power to shore, as well as a 9 km, 66 kV interconnector linking the Hollandse Kust (west Alpha) and (west Beta) platforms.
The milestone paves the way for the next phase of development. From 2026, RWE and TotalEnergies’ Oranjewind consortium will begin installing turbines 53 km off the Dutch coast.
Once operational, the offshore substations and tested cable systems will transmit renewable power directly into the national grid.
The project underlines the Netherlands’ ambition to scale up offshore wind, a cornerstone of its climate strategy. It is also expected to deliver jobs across the maritime and energy sectors while reinforcing the country’s role as a leader in European offshore wind development.
