No new Chevron investments in Australia

Tuesday, August 19 2025

General – LNG

Chevron CEO Mike Wirth noted that shifting regulations and rising labor costs in Australia may pose challenges to attracting new investment.

Despite Chevron’s 70-year presence and its role as a major WA gas supplier, Wirth says the US giant has no plans to expand further here, pointing instead to easier growth in the US and Middle East.

With ExxonMobil also retreating, global majors are questioning whether Australia’s regulatory environment is undermining its competitiveness against LNG rivals like Qatar and the US.
