Friday, August 8 2025

Fossil Energy – Gulf of Mexico

Talos Energy has awarded a new two-well contract in the Gulf of Mexico to Seadrill 12,000-ft drillship West Vela.

The estimated duration of the new contract is 90 days, starting in mid-November 2025. It is expected to keep the rig operating into February 2026, with options available through May 2026.

West Vela has been working for Talos in the Gulf since the fourth quarter of 2024. Currently, the operator is expected to finish previously contracted work with West Vela in September 2025, followed by the newly awarded contract starting in November.

Talos is currently drilling the Daenerys prospect in the Gulf of Mexico. This is to be followed by development drilling at Sunspear, Cardona and CPN in 2025 and 2026.
