Wind Energy – Postponement
French energy company Electricité de France (EDF) has announced a two-year delay to the commissioning of its offshore wind farm near the Normandy coast, citing ongoing construction difficulties.
The postponement follows significant delays in foundation work by the project’s main contractor.
A company spokesperson confirmed that drilling operations are expected to resume next month, with phased commissioning now planned for the second half of 2027.
Earlier this year, EDF had already indicated that the timeline for the Calvados offshore wind farm would be revised due to challenges faced by Italian contractor Saipem SpA, which is responsible for installing the turbine foundation piles.
Saipem has since stated that drilling operations for the remaining 60 foundations are scheduled to restart in late summer, with completion now targeted for 2026.
