General – Acquisition
Aurora Energy Services has recently announced the acquisition of Encomara, a UK-based specialist in floating wind technology, marking a major strategic move to advance its capabilities in offshore wind.

The acquisition includes a significant investment in the further development and deployment of Encomara’s flagship SQUID mooring connection system.
Headquartered in Aberdeen Encomara has developed SQUID, a modular, quick-connect subsea system that combines pre-installed mooring and electrical connections into a single unit.
Designed to reduce the cost, time, and risks associated with the deployment, recovery, and reconnection of floating offshore wind turbines, SQUID is set to transform the offshore wind sector.
It allows operators to modularise and industrialise offshore construction, and when combined with Aurora’s fabrication and engineering capability, it gives Aurora a unique position in the market.
The SQUID system enables tow-to-port maintenance strategies and decouples installation phases, significantly de-risking offshore construction and operations and maintenance (O&M) activities.
It also paves the way for emerging multi-use offshore infrastructure strategies, including dynamic inter-array systems and hybrid generation models.
