Wind Energy – Donald Trump
Equinor has reported first-quarter 2025 financial and operational results broadly in line with analysts’ expectations, but all attention is on US President Donald Trump’s abrupt suspension of the Empire Wind project offshore New York.
Equinor believes the suspension is unlawful and the group may take legal action.
The US government last month ordered Equinor to stop offshore construction work on the Empire Wind project.
Equinor had already secured more than $3 billion in project financing to achieve financial close, and Empire Wind I was targeting to enter full commercial operations in 2027.
“We have invested in Empire Wind after obtaining all necessary approvals, and the order to halt work now is unprecedented and in our view unlawful,” Equinor CEO Anders Opedal said in a statement.
“This is a question of the rights and obligations granted under legally issued permits, and security of investments based on valid approvals,” he added.
