General – Cable Repair
N-Sea Group has been awarded a contract by Gwynt y Môr OFTO to carry out further repairs to one of the four export cables that form part of the transmission system owned by the company.

Gwynt y Môr Wind Farm is a 576 megawatt offshore wind farm located off the coast of Wales. The wind farm has 160 wind turbines with a capacity of 3.6 MW and has been operational since 2013. GYM OFTO owns the transmission assets connecting the Gwynt y Môr Wind Farm to the National Grid.
The N-Sea scope includes the replacement of a 5km section of 132kV export cable from the onshore Transition Joint Bay (TJB) to the offshore platform.
The scope includes pulling the new cable ashore using a horizontal directional drill (HDD) under a railway, dredging the shore approach, joining and testing the new cable, and burying it. N-Sea’s in-house Survey, UXO, and Data Centre divisions will be contracted to design and deliver a new route for the new cable, including as-built data upon completion.
N-Sea Group is preparing for the repair campaign this summer. The work will be carried out using the company’s dedicated cable repair vessel, CURO, which was selected for its ability to meet the specific challenges of the site. The area is known for its high tides and shallow waters close to the landfall.
GYM OFTO commented: “This is the third offshore repair that N-Sea has carried out for us. They have continued to demonstrate their ability to explain their plans clearly and then carry out these complex repairs competently and efficiently.”
