Wind Energy – Portugal
The Portuguese government has officially adopted a centralised sequential model for upcoming auctions.
This move could set the stage for faster deployment, greater investor confidence, and better alignment with national energy goals.
It means that the government will select and prepare areas before each auction:
Key permitting and legal frameworks will be in place early
Auctions will be phased, allowing for a more strategic build-out of capacity
Portugal aims to install 2 GW of offshore wind by 2030, and this model provides a clearer path to get there.
The first tender proposal is expected within 60 days, with full documentation due by October 2025.
