Gas reserves estimate goes up at Shell’s Selene prospect

Fossil Energy – Gas Prospect

Shell has found ‘significantly better’ porosity and permeability properties at its Selene gas prospect in the North Sea, following the analysis of the data from the 2024 well, prompting partner Deltic Energy to raise its estimate of recoverable gas reserves by 33%.

According to an update from Deltic Energy, which has a 25% working interest in the Shell-operated Selene gas discovery in the Southern North Sea, the analysis of core samples from the 48/8b-3Z well is now substantially complete.

The 48/8b-3Z well was drilled in summer 2024 using the Valaris 123 jack-up rig and the partners confirmed the gas discovery in October 2024.
