Wind Energy – Sofia Export Cable

Today Prysmian announced the completion of the installation and the HV testing of the export submarine cables linking the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm (UK’s North East coast).

The project comprises more than 440 km of ±320 kV submarine export cables with XLPE insulation from the net-zero Pikkala plant in Finland, and 15 km of ±320 kV land cables with P-Laser insulation, an eco-friendly, high-performance cable technology from the Gron plant in France.

The 1.4 gigawatt (GW) Sofia Offshore Wind Farm project is expected to supply enough power to meet the needs of 1,2 million typical UK households each year.
