TAQA ceased gas production from P18 fields

Tuesday, April 1 2025

General – Porthos

Last week, TAQA in the Netherlands ceased gas production from the P18 fields in the Dutch North Sea.

TAQA did so at the request of Porthos, who will use the P18 infrastructure for the safe and permanent storage of CO2.

Since gas production from the P18 fields started in 1993, TAQA has produced 17 billion m³ of gas and thus contributed to an affordable and reliable supply of gas for industries, businesses, and communities.

The conversion of the P18-A platform and two subsea wells to make them suitable for safe and permanent storage of CO2 will start soon.

Porthos will store around 37 million tons of CO₂, which is about 2.5 million tons of CO₂ per year for 15 years. The system is scheduled to be operational from 2026.
