The company announced on March 12 that it had signed a Preliminary Work Initiation Agreement (EWA) with Siemens Gamesa for the construction of a new wind power factory in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province.

The two companies had formed a strategic partnership in 2022 to expand the domestic offshore wind market, and this agreement marks the commencement of the execution phase.

Initially, Doosan Enerbility will begin designing the manufacturing plant and production system for the 14MW offshore wind turbines at the Changwon factory.

Siemens Gamesa plans to provide technology transfer and manpower support, as well as conduct training to enhance Doosan Enerbility’s capabilities in assembling nacelles for offshore wind turbines.

The agreement was signed on March 11 by Yoon Yo-han, executive vice president of power service sales at Doosan Enerbility, and Felix Merdan, head of nacelle production at Siemens Gamesa.

This partnership comes at a time when South Korea is actively pursuing renewable energy development to reduce carbon emissions and transition to a sustainable energy system. The government has set ambitious targets for increasing the share of renewable energy, including offshore wind, in its energy mix.

Siemens Gamesa plans to assemble and supply nacelles from Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon factory, further solidifying their collaboration.
