Fossil Energy – Ruya Development

Chinese fabrication yard Chiwan Sembawang Engineering (CSE) has secured a contract from McDermott International to construct an offshore platform’s jacket for the Ruya development project, a key component of the ongoing expansion at Qatar’s Al Shaheen oilfield.

The contract, signed between Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan (QMW), a joint venture between McDermott and China State Shipping Corporation (CSSC), to build a 9,000 tons jacket for an offshore platform at Al Shaheen oilfield.

Al Shaheen is one of the world’s largest hydrocarbon fields and is the largest oil field offshore Qatar, approximately 70 km northeast of Ras Laffan. The Ruya project will be executed over five years and aims to develop 550,000 bpd of oil.

It is expected to boost production of the Al Shaheen field by approximately 100,000 bpd with first oil in 2027.
