Wind Energy – Rock Installation
95 different pieces of Boskalis’ subsea rock installation vessel Rockpiper is currently installing the pre-lay scour protection for the 95 turbine foundations of the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm in the North Sea.

What makes this project unique is the donut-shaped design, which varies slightly at each turbine location. In other words: when the Rockpiper is finished, there will be 95 different ‘pieces of rock art’ on the seabed.
Contracted by Seaway7, the Rockpiper is installing more than 280,000 tons of rock at Scottish Power Renewables’ offshore wind farm. This will provide scour protection berms for each of the 95 foundation piles which will be installed at a later stage. In this way, the piles will be protected from the forces of the sea from the time of installation.
