Valaris to retire three semisubs from global fleet

Thursday, February 20 2025

General – Retirement

Bermuda-based drilling contractor Valaris has decided to retire three semi-submersible rigs from its global fleet and focus on high-specification units, as announced in a press release.

Valaris on Tuesday confirmed that the semisubs Valaris DPS-3, DPS-5 and DPS-6 would either be repurposed for other uses or scrapped. Valaris DP-5 had been idle since the third quarter last year while the other two drilling rigs had been stacked for several years.

The rig owner has further streamlined its fleet with the $24 million sale of the 25-year old jack-up Valaris 75, which since 2020 had been stacked in the US Gulf. As part of the sale and purchase agreement, this rig’s future operations are restricted to the US Gulf, noted Valaris.
