Fossil Energy – Drilling
Transocean’s upcoming contract with Woodside for a drillship offshore Mexico has been assigned to the 12,000-ft drillship Deepwater Thalassa.

The contract is currently expected to run from March 2026 to March 2029.
In July 2023, Transocean was awarded a 1,080-day contract with a backlog of $518 million offshore Mexico with an operator that was undisclosed at the time. Under the terms of the contract, the work could have been assigned to any of the drillships Deepwater Invictus, Deepwater Asgard, Deepwater Conqueror, Deepwater Proteus, or Deepwater Thalassa, with the final decision to have been made by 1 February 2025.
Woodside will be using the rig for work at the Trion development offshore Mexico. Woodside currently has a floating production unit under construction for the project and expects the first oil in 2028.
Deepwater Thalassa is currently working for Shell in the US GOM into February 2026.
