Wind Energy – Germany
Germany’s Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) has launched another offshore wind tender round, seeking to award 1 GW of capacity that should be hooked to the grid in 2032.
The tender is for seabed acreage within the N-9.4 area in the North Sea and will be open for bids by June 1, 2025, according to official documents.
The site has not undergone a preliminary investigation by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) which means that the winner will have to independently conduct the necessary investigations and analysis of the marine environment, the subsoil and wind and oceanographic conditions.
Under the tender requirements, the offshore wind turbines should be connected to the converter station or transformer station in the first and second quarters of 2032. The complex is due to be connected to the grid in the third quarter of the same year.
This is the first offshore wind auction launched in Germany since the start of 2025. Last month, BSH defined two areas in the North Sea as suitable for hosting 2.5 GW offshore turbines.
Competitive bidding for the N-10.1 and N-10.2 areas is due to be opened by the Federal Network Agency, with bidding set to end on August 1, 2025.
