Key permit for Korean offshore wind project

Tuesday, January 21 2025

Wind Energy – South Korea

Deep Wind Offshore Korea has secured a Public Waters Occupancy and Use Permit for the Admiral Lee Offshore Wind Project.

This permit is essential for completing offshore lidar measurements, a critical process for assessing wind resources and informing the project’s design and feasibility.

The Admiral Lee Offshore Wind Project is part of South Korea’s broader push to expand its offshore wind capacity. The country aims to achieve 12 GW of offshore wind by 2030 as part of its renewable energy targets, aligning with its commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050.

This development adds momentum to the growing offshore wind industry in South Korea, which faces challenges such as complex permitting processes and community engagement but holds significant potential for clean energy production and economic growth.
