Wind Energy – Philippines
Sixteen frontrunner offshore wind (OSW) projects with a total capacity of 16,652 megawatts (MW) will start generating clean energy by 2028, the Philippines Department of Energy (DOE) said.
The department said in a statement over the weekend that OSW companies are committed to starting building their facilities by 2027 at the latest and can produce electricity by 2028.
By coordinating with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the Energy Department will help make the additional 16,652 MW a reality by facilitating the permits required by the companies involved in the projects.
The biggest output capacity belongs to Domhain Earth Corp.’s 3,100 MW Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro and Antique, while Buhawind Energy Northern Luzon Corp. is committed to producing up to 2,000 MW offshore of Ilocos Norte. Domhain Earth’s Calatagan projects in Batangas and Occidental Mindoro are expected to generate 1,830 MW.
Domhain Earth is also building a 1,600 MW wind facility in the offshore areas of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan and another 1,500 MW in the offshore areas of Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas.
