Wind Energy – Hollandse Kust West
Belgium’s Smulders has awarded an E&I contract to Denmark’s ProCon for Hollandse Kust West VI, which is being developed by the Ecowende consortium in the Netherlands.
The company’s scope of work includes E&I pre-assembly, outfitting, testing and cold commissioning of the 52 suspended internal platforms (SIPs) and the 52 external platforms for the foundations.
The work will commence in the first quarter of 2025 and be carried out at Smulders’ facilities in Hoboken, New Jersey, and Balen, Belgium.
Shell and Eneco secured the development rights for Hollandse Kust West VI in December 2022. Early last year, Japan’s Chubu acquired a 30% stake in the project from Eneco.
The offshore wind farm will be built approximately 53 kilometres off the coast of IJmuiden and will produce enough electricity to meet approximately 3 percent of the current electricity demand in the Netherlands.
Van Oord will be responsible for the transport and installation of the foundations, the design, procurement and laying of the connecting cables between the wind turbines, as well as the transport and installation of the wind turbines.
The project, which will comprise 54 wind turbines, is expected to be operational in 2026.
