Wind Energy – Estonia
ELWIND environmental impact assessment program for the ELWIND Estonia area has been approved.
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) program describes the entire environmental impact assessment process, such as the scope and methodology of environmental studies to be conducted in the Estonian marine area, community involvement, etc.
Proposals, objections, and questions regarding the program were submitted during the public display period and at public discussions by neighbouring countries, state institutions, interest groups, and individuals.
From 2024 to 2027, KIK will organise tenders to find contractors for specific studies.
The ELWIND offshore wind park will be a major project for the Baltic Sea region with a high economic and social impact. The construction of the wind park in both areas of Latvia and Estonia will provide an electricity capacity of at least 1000 megawatts, which will significantly strengthen the energy independence of Latvia and the Baltic region.
