Wind Energy – Sweden
The Swedish government today decided on 14 offshore wind farms, and only one of these has been given the go-ahead for further development.
The reason for the rejection is that the projects would have an unacceptable impact on defense interests. All of the rejected projects are located on Sweden’s East coast, primarily in the Baltic Sea.
The project that received approval is Poseidon, located off the coast of Stenungsund on Sweden’s west coast, with a capacity of 1,400 MW using floating technology. The Final Investment Decision (FID) is expected in 2028, with installation start estimated for 2031. The developers behind this project are Vattenfall and Zephyr through Kontiki Vind AB.
