General – Partnership

Sumitomo Corporation is partnering with IWS Fleet, a Norwegian company specializing in offshore wind farm support vessels, to advance renewable energy and a carbon neutral society.

With the increasing installation of offshore wind farms, there is rising demand for offshore support vessels, particularly Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) that assist in the construction and maintenance of wind turbines.

Europe, leading in offshore wind power development, anticipates the need for around 60 CSOVs by 2027, expanding to over 100 by 2030. IWS Fleet, owning six CSOVs (two completed, four under construction), holds the second-largest global CSOV fleet and is highly regarded for its efficient vessel management and operational capabilities.

IWS Fleet’s parent company, Integrated Wind Solutions ASA (IWS), offers various offshore wind-related services and owns support vessels. This partnership marks Sumitomo Corporation’s second investment in the offshore wind support vessel sector, aligning with our medium-term management plan to enhance our presence in the offshore wind supply chain as part of the Green Transformation (GX) business strategy.
