EDF Renewables completes acquisition in South Korea

Tuesday, September 3 2024

Wind Energy – South Korea

EDF Renewables recently announced that it has acquired 100% of Shell Overseas Holdings’ shares in West Sea Energy 1 Co., which is exploring the development of a large-scale offshore wind project in South Korea.

It marks a major step for EDF Renewables as it seeks to increase its offshore wind presence in South Korea and the Asia-Pacific region.

EDF Renewables acquires its first offshore wind project in South Korea, located in the southwestern county of Yeonggwang. Wind measurements have already been conducted across three identified zones.

Following this acquisition, the company will continue to develop the project, which has an estimated capacity of up to 1.5 GW. Its next major milestone is obtaining an electricity business license by 2025.
