Petrobras plans to launch a pair of tenders by the end of the year aimed at contracting as many as 26 newbuild offshore support vessels in a fresh effort to restore the Brazilian shipbuilding industry to its former glory.
The plans to order the construction of 10 oil spill response vessels (OSRV) and 16 remotely operated vehicle support vessels (RSV) were announced at a press conference earlier this month.
The state-backed Brazilian energy group requires these vessels to go on long-term contracts to support its expected offshore drilling operations and field development plans in the second half of this decade.
