Letter of intent to fulfill joint ambitions

Sunday, May 19 2024

Wind Energy – Sustainability

Together with Irish and British colleagues, Eamon Ryan and Andrew Bowie, Tinne Van der Straeten, the Belgian Minister of Energy signed a letter of intent to create a connection between the wind farms off the Irish coast and Princess Elisabeth Island.

The energy island will collect and land power from future wind turbines in the Princess Elizabeth Zone, as well as be the arrival point for hybrid interconnections.

With this cooperation, the countries are fulfilling their joint ambitions that were set out a year ago during the NorthSeaSummit24 in Ostend: to turn the North Sea into Europe’s largest, sustainable power plant and supply green power to our households and businesses.

The letter of intent is a valuable addition to the interconnections Belgium is already exploring, such as with Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway, after which we can select the best options for our country.
