Wind Energy – Vineyard Wind

The installation of transition pieces (TPs) is about to commence at Vineyard Wind 1, America’s first large-scale offshore wind farm.

Beginning next month, DEME Group’s jack-up vessel Sea Challenger will begin placing TPs at 17 monopile locations in lease area OCS-A 0501. The campaign will continue through June 2024.

The units are being manufactured by Spain’s Windar Renovables, which won the contract in 2019.

The first of 62 transition pieces arrived at the Port of Avilés in December 2022. DEME Offshore US is responsible for the transportation and installation of the units.

In addition to TPs, DEME’s wind farm installation vessel Sea Installer has installed ten wind turbines so far at the offshore construction site located about 15 miles (approximately 24 kilometres) off the coast of Massachusetts.
