Wind Energy – Moray West
Offshore installation vessel Orion completed the monopile installation for OW Ocean Winds Moray West offshore wind farm.
Despite harsh winter conditions, the teams involved have shown exceptional skills and dedication, completing the installation of 29 XXL monopiles with a diameter of 10 meters and weighing up to 2,000 tonnes each, in just two months.
This milestone marks a significant achievement for the industry, with the first complete XXL foundations installed for near 15 MW turbines.
Specialised equipment like the Quad Vibro Hammer played a crucial role in overcoming challenging soil conditions. The technology mitigates possible pile runs and is much quieter compared to pile driving with an impact hammer. The system was delivered by Cape Holland in cooperation with Breman Machinery.
DEME also used pioneering bolting equipment for M90 bolts.
This key milestone also marks winding down of project operations at Port of Cromarty Firth in Invergordon and the support services of Sarens PSG, who have ensured smooth port marshalling activities.
What’s next? DEME’s DP2 jack-up vessel ‘Apollo’ continues installing the transition pieces at Moray West, while ‘Orion’ sails across the Atlantic Ocean, bound for Virginia in the US for the installation of 176 foundations for Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Farm.
