Wind Energy – Blekinge Sweden
Swedish renewables developer Eolus Vind announced it has applied for the construction of a gigawatt-scale offshore wind farm with as many as 70 turbines off the coast of Blekinge in southern Sweden.
Specifically, the company has applied for an environmental permit to the Land and Environment Court in Vaxjo and another one to the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise to conduct investigations on the seabed and lay underwater cables.
If approved, the scheme is to be realised about 11 km from shore in the municipalities of Karlshamn and Solvesborg. In addition to Eolus, it is owned by the local company Vingkraft, which initiated the project.
Anders Nilsson, CEO of Blekinge Offshore and initiator of the project, said in a statement that the parties are now submitting a completely revised application to build the wind park after the Swedish government rejected an earlier application in 2016, citing the interests of the Swedish Armed Forces.
The new scheme is associated with 40% less area, 90% fewer turbines, and a quadrupled distance (2 km) between them.
If approved, the project could enter the construction phase in 2027.
