Semisub rig starts drilling for Trident offshore Equatorial Guinea

Tuesday, January 23 2024

Fossil Energy – Guinea

Trident Energy has initiated a three-well infill drilling campaign on Block G offshore Equatorial Guinea using the semisub Island Innovator.

According to an update from partner Panoro Energy, the first new well should go onstream around the end of March, with all three wells set to be operating by mid-year.

The rig will then transfer to Block S to drill the Kosmos Energy-operated Akeng Deep well testing a play in the Albian and targeting a potential resource of ~180 MMbbl of oil close to existing infrastructure at Block G.

Panoro CEO John Hamilton said the program, if successful, could lead to a substantial increase in production from the Ceiba Field and Okume Complex compared with last year’s average level of 25,000 bbl/d.

Work also has started to assess prospectivity at the Panoro-operated Block EG-01.
