TotalEnergies extending deployments of offshore methane detection technology

Wednesday, December 6 2023

General – Methane Detection

TotalEnergies has signed agreements with Petrobras, SOCAR and Sonangol to jointly conduct methane detection and measurement campaigns on oil and gas facilities in Brazil, Azerbaijan and Angola.

These will involve deployment on drones of the AUSEA gas analyzer, developed by TotalEnergies, CNRS and the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne over the past six years.

AUSEA is a miniature dual sensor capable of detecting methane and CO2 emissions and at the same time identify their source.

The technology is said to access to hard-to-reach emission points, delivering accurate readings on all types of industrial facilities offshore and offshore.

TotalEnergies claims to have halved methane emissions from its operated sites between 2010 and 2020, and it is targeting a further 50% in 2024, a year ahead of plan, and 80% in 2030, compared to 2020.
