Wind Energy – South Fork USA
The first turbine at South Fork Wind is successfully installed!
The Siemens Gamesa 11MW turbine is now standing tall in the Atlantic Ocean following so much hard work by so many.
It is a milestone for New York’s first offshore wind farm and progress for a new American energy industry.
This important achievement for Ørsted is the result of countless hours of work from Ørsted’s project team on the safe and successful construction to date. It’s also another point of progress for the American offshore wind industry as projects move forward, create good-paying, skilled jobs and show what is possible for offshore wind in the US.
Ørsted thanks its partners Eversource Energy and the teams offshore from Van Oord – Nederland and Crowley Marine for getting components safely installed in challenging seas.
The project has been in development for the better part of a decade, requiring the qualification of a number of equipment and service providers as well as hundreds of workers in the labour force to get to this point.
Once complete, the 132 MW offshore wind farm will address East Hampton’s energy needs, producing enough clean energy to power 70,000 homes.
When complete, the 12 turbines will be out of sight from East Hampton beaches.
