FPSO mooring problem shuts in production at Shell UK field

Friday, November 17 2023

Fossil Energy – Mooring Problems Pierce Field

Production at Shell’s Pierce oil and gas field in the UK North Sea has been shut in since late August due to a problem with the mooring system on the field’s floating production, storage and offloading vessel.

Aurelia Energy, the holding company of the Bluewater Group which owns the Haewene Brim FPSO, said in its quarterly report on Thursday that two of the mooring legs on the floater were not properly secured to the buoy and production was stopped.

At least one of the connections needs to be repaired in order to resume production again.

“We are waiting for a weather window so divers can fix the connection of one mooring leg. The other mooring leg is laid down on the seabed to fix around spring next year. We currently expect production ramp up to start in December,” said Aurelia.
