Wind Energy – Joint Industry Project

The National Offshore Wind Research & Development Consortium (NOWRDC) has joined forces with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Cornell University to kick off a groundbreaking Joint Industry Project.

This collaborative initiative is geared towards understanding and optimizing power production in U.S. offshore wind farms. As offshore wind projects grow in size and number, it’s crucial to harness cutting-edge tools and strategies for efficient power generation.

Specifically, this project aims to study inter-array wake effects on the U.S. East Coast.

The project will address pivotal questions about wake-induced power losses within and between wind farms, considering various layouts, spacing, and meteorological conditions.

By uniting offshore wind developers, regulators, and research institutions, this project aims to pave the way for optimized wind energy production in the long term.
